Rules Committee
On November 28, 2025, the Chief Justice of the Court Martial Appeal Court (CMAC) established a Standing Rules Committee (the Committee). The Committee’s mandate is to review the current Rules and to recommend amendments aimed at clarifying and modernizing them, as well as enhancing Court administration. It will commence by conducting a global review of the CMAC Rules and related provisions in the National Defence Act (NDA).
The Committee’s mandate is also to identify, where appropriate, consequential amendments that may need to be made to the NDA related to the CMAC Rules and to formulate recommendations to the Minister of National Defence to this effect.
The Committee consists of thirteen members: The Chief Justice of the CMAC (Chair), three members of the judiciary designated by the Chief Justice, two members designated by the Canadian Military Prosecutions Services , two members designated by the Defence Counsel Services , one member designated by the Military Justice Division of the Office of the Judge Advocate General , one member designated by the Office of the Chief Military Judge , the Chief Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of the Courts Administration Services, the Registrar of the CMAC and one member from the private bar.
