Ottawa, January 12, 2005 - The proceeding for the swearing in of the Honourable Edmond P. Blanchard, as Chief Justice of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada, and the tribute to the Honourable Barry L. Strayer, former Chief Justice of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada, will be held on Friday, January 14, 2005, at 4:00 p.m. in the Supreme Court of Canada Building, West Courtroom, Ottawa, Ontario.
The ceremony will have military rituals, confirming the role of the Court in the administration of the military justice. Several members of the Office of the Judge Advocate General will provide a flag party and honour guard.
The Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada's main function is to hear appeals from courts martial which are military courts established under the National Defence Act.
